We carry the size 52 grinder plates in two styles - 2 Faced or Hub. Both are made of hardened tool steel and are 58-60 hardness. We can provide them notched, 1 side flat or 2 sides flat.
The 2 faced plates allow you to use both sides of the plate thus giving twice the service as a hub plate. However the hub plates have a wider wearing surface on the center (stud) hole which reduces the wear on the stud.
If you use the grinder everyday it is better to use a hub plate. Also the hub provides a "handle" for easier removal of the plate.
